About us

Marmaketo is a small village, just two steps from Tzermiado, the largest village on the Lasithi plateau (825 m altitude).

The 3 Studios are located in the Cretan countryside on a farm but also very close to shops and services (mini market, banks, post office, doctor's office, pharmacy, restaurants, taverns, etc.). They belong to a family business, of Vassilis (Madaritis) and Christina Kargiotakis, which also has 3 large apartments and the swimming pool easily accessible by all.

The total capacity of all accommodations is 20 people.

The owners live on the farm and are available for anything the guests need, with discretion. They speak Greek, English and French.

Cool nights, amidst the tranquility of nature, in a rural and mountainous environment at the same time.

The Dikti mountain range that protects and frames the plateau offers beautiful scenery and excursions for all types of travelers, from a simple walk to the Minoan settlement of Karfi with views overlooking the central and western sides of Crete to hiking the three peaks of the range.

The European mountain trail E4 and its branches that pass through the plateau provide the opportunity for bicycle tours through its small paths!

Vassilis, knowledgeable about the area, will help you organize your hike.

Marmaketo is located as far as it needs to be from the noise of the summer holiday beaches but just as close to very beautiful beaches.

In the heart of Crete, the Lasithi plateau, once inaccessible, helped preserve traditions and played a decisive role in all the battles of the Cretan resistance against the invaders. Today it is connected to all points of the horizon through wonderful routes offering you views that will take your breath away!

To the north, the main entrance of the plateau leads to two roads: one to Heraklion, the western side of Crete and the valleys with vineyards, and the other allows quick access to the sea and the resorts of Hersonissos, Malia, Sissi.

In the east, a very charming route will take you to Agios Nikolaos, Elounda, Spinalonga, the bay of Mirabello and the south-eastern side of Crete. You can also choose the path that ends at the Katharos plateau (1100 m altitude).

On the southeast side of the plateau, a wonderful road, which until 5 years ago was a small path, will lead you from Kaminaki to the plain of Messara and to the archaeological sites of Gortyna, Phaistos, Matala.

And for those who don't know us yet, our family has been welcoming thousands of travelers to our restaurant, "Kronio", in Tzermiado for more than 50 years. The restaurant has been operating since 1965, the time when Vassilis' parents earned the reputation they deserved with their passion, which we leave you to discover in the tourist guides and websites.
